John-Mark Makwatta and Elly Asieche were on target as AFC Leopards and Wazito FC shared the spoils in the FKF Premier League match played at MISC Kasarani on Monday evening.
Makwatta scoring form continued as he netted from the spot, his fourth goal in as many matches as Leopards remained in 10th place on 35 points, one behind FC Talanta.
The draw stretched Leopards unbeaten run to 11 matches with Makwatta strike coming in the third minute after being fouled by goalkeeper Zamu Adisa inside the box.
Elsewhere at the Lang’ata Ulinzi Sports Complex, hosts Ulinzi opened were humbled 1-0 by Nairobi City Stars, in their first ever competitive match at the venue. City Stars thus lost an opportunity to leap into the second spot, stagnating at third with 45 points from 26 outings.
A win would have seen them rise above Tusker who have
Makwatta who is at Leopards on loan from Police FC sent the goalkeeper the wrong way, lifting Ingwe fans and much to the chagrin of Wazito tactician Fred Ambani, clearly showing on his face.
Wazito equalized shortly after the break with a fine tap from Asieche past keeper Levis Opiyo, punishing a sluggish reaction from the Leopards’ backline.
Wazito, sitting on 16th with 21 points, however were condemned to their sixth match without a win.
But Wazito fought hard and enjoyed more possession, pinning Leopards to their territory after conceding the early goal.
Origa Fidel pounced on captain Eugine Mukangula’s error to shoot but the ball flied into goalkeeper Opiyo’s gloves.
And Asieche did not miss the target slotting home at close range past Opiyo to level the scores.
Kinyanjui James and Owino Maurice were also at the neck of Opiyo forcing him into fine saves and scares.
Ingwe midfield was put under check by Otieno Tyson denying the home team their now characteristic low short passes style.
Leopards were forced into a defensive sub after centre-back Kayci Odhiambo was carried off the pitch following a dangerous tackle.
