How to be a good father.

Some will argue that there is a difference between being a dad and being a father. Something that I will talk about in my next article. Being a father is not determined by the fact that you are fertile and you can sire kids. No. Being a father means dedicating your time, heart, and life to the kids. At the same time, if you talk with kids about both parents, you will be surprised when some will praise their dads while others will just wish they don’t have a father. You will wonder what’s really happening and what it takes for someone to be accepted by his kid/kids and how kids rank the good ones and the bad ones today I help you be and make a good father.
Be Present.

The fact will always remain that a man should provide for his family and this sometimes makes a man be out and away from his family. For you to be a good father you have to be available even if not all the time but when it comes to some things, try and create time for them even if it’s once a month. If once a week is not possible you can join them as they watch the movie and when they are doing some things that they consider important to them.

Be a fair Disciplinarian.

Be fair when you discipline them. Do not let your life frustrations and intimidations make you rough on your kids. At the same time be fair to all the kids such that you don’t treat one as if she/he is special to the other ones. In African communities, kids are named after relatives. At some point, you will find that sometimes a man will be rough and unfair to the kids who are named after their mother’s side which is not a good sign to the kids and to the mother too. Being a good dad means being a man who understands that they are all your kids despite the art and don’t treat some as if they don’t do wrong, meaning don’t stereotype the kids.

Be a good role model.

The rule of nature explains how genes and environment influence the growth of a kid and how it determines how the kid will be behaving. How you do things and what you do really determines how your kids will be in the future. Make what you want to see in the world. Raise what you wanted to be in the future and with this, you will never regret being a father. This can only be contributed by being so keen on what you do as they see and anything you do.

Be understanding.

When you are disciplining them be understanding in the sense that there are some things that are normal and kids will always do. You cannot overlook them but you just have to be soft on them. When you are talking to them, do understand that they are kids and they need to be held like so and not like adults. Always understand why they do some things and don’t wait until they ask for them. Sometimes do for them what you believe they need and what they require. Do it for them even before they ask.

Being a good father just requires less than you may think of. You provide for them, yes but they still require your time. You should always make sure you give them the priceless gift of all time which they will never forget which is only to love their mother and treat her right always. When they see their mother happy they will be attracted to you and you will always be their favorite.
