President Uhuru Kenyatta will lead Kenyans in viewing the body of the late, retired President Mwai Kibaki on Monday, as well paying tribute and their last respects to the former Head of State who died last week, aged 90.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected in parliament at around 10.00am, with all other state officials in attendance expected at the precincts by 9a.am
Kibaki’s body will lie in state at the parliament for three days, before his state funeral on Friday, with full military honours and protocols.
The cortege will leave the Lee Funeral home at around 7.05am, and will be conveyed to the parliament precincts, draped in the national flag, and on a gun carriage.
The late Kibaki’s immediate family will escort the casket.
A Military Guard of Honor will at the same time be mounted along Parliament Road for the entry procession into Parliament, where President Uhuru Kenyatta will receive Kibaki’s body at 10am.
Meanwhile, diplomats, dignitaries and close associates who wish to condole with the family will be allowed to do so at Kibaki’s private office in Nyari, Nairobi, beginning Tuesday.
A facility will also be set up in the Othaya CDF office for members of the public to pay their condolences and fill the condolence book.
Condolence books will be made available to the public in all government ministries, the National Assembly and the Senate and in the eight Regional and the 47 County commissioners offices across the country from Monday.
President Kenyatta officially announced Kibaki’s death on Friday in a televised address at State House, Nairobi, further directing that the country observe a period of national mourning until sunset of the day of his interment.
Friday, April 29, 2022 has since been declared a public holiday to allow for the funeral service.
